Message from the President

HKUST’s journey from fledgling university to a top ranked globally recognized institution has been extraordinary. In just three decades, we have become a leading institution known for our academic excellence and groundbreaking research. Beyond our commitment to research and education, we are dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, and pioneering impactful solutions to address the pressing challenges of our time.

At HKUST, our people are our most valuable asset, and we strive to create the ideal conditions for them to thrive. We continuously upgrade and expand our research infrastructure to support faculty exploration.  Faculty and researchers are actively encouraged to forge research partnerships, and engage in international and interdisciplinary research collaborations with leading researchers worldwide. Moreover, we empower our research units with innovative recruitment strategies to attract top-tier faculty and staff.

On the academic front, we adopt innovative pedagogy to foster a dynamic and engaging learning environment that nurtures critical thinking and creativity. To prepare our students to meet society's evolving needs, we have launched exciting new programs in diverse fields, including AI, biomedical and health sciences, technology innovation and entrepreneurship, and information and cybersecurity management. Additionally, we have  established Hong Kong’s first Division of Arts and Machine Creativity, which merges technology, art, and the humanities to explore new frontiers of creative expression.

We are also dedicated to creating impactful solutions for society, and have established a robust innovation ecosystem to accelerate the translation of new discoveries. This includes extensive resources to support students and faculty in launching their own startups, and a wide network of collaborators, comprising government, industry, and community partners, to drive commercialization. Our strong alumni community further inspires and empowers emerging innovators and founders through engaging programs. We are also sustainably increasing our investment capacity to support the growth of HKUST innovators.

Funding is essential to sustain our leadership in teaching, research, and societal impact. The HKUST Foundation plays a crucial role in connecting us with visionary supporters who share our mission. We are profoundly grateful to our donors for their generous contributions that have fueled our remarkable progress.
